Home / Business Coaching / Growth Circle

Eight owners. One room. Every fortnight.

Running a business is a lonely job disguised as a busy one. You are surrounded by people all day and there is still nobody to ask. This is eight owners working on each other’s actual problems, not networking, not a seminar.

8
owners, hard cap, never two of the same trade
2h
every fortnight, in person in Penrith
4
hot seats each, scheduled in advance
2
private one-to-one sessions, included
6
months, twelve sessions, then month to month
How the three fit together

Three steps, one scorecard

Everyone joins the room through the free Health Check. It tells us both whether the room is the right answer, and gives the group a baseline to work from.

Why a room

The person you most need to talk to does not work for you

Your staff cannot help, you are the one who is meant to have the answers. Your partner has heard it all before. Your accountant sees you at tax time and looks backwards. Your mates are supportive, which is not the same as useful.

So most owners make the big calls alone, at 11pm, on gut feel, and then live with the result for two years.

The odd thing is how quickly that changes when you put a decision in front of seven other owners. Problems that have been circling your head for six months get resolved in about twenty minutes, mostly because someone in the room has already lived through it.

How it works

Eight people. Hard cap. No two competitors.

Eight is the number for a reason. Fewer and there is not enough range in the room. More and the quiet ones stop talking, and the quiet ones are usually running the tightest businesses.

01
Never two of the same trade or catchment

It is the only way people talk honestly about pricing, margins, the customer who is killing them and the staff member who is not working out. Everything said in the room stays in the room.

02
Fortnightly, two hours, in person

Same day, same time, in a room together in Penrith. Twelve sessions over six months, then month to month. Between sessions the group has its own channel, which is where roughly half the value ends up.

03
Four hot seats each

Thirty minutes where the room works on your business and nothing else. You bring a real problem, and seven owners plus me go at it properly. Scheduled in advance, so you know when yours is coming.

04
Two private sessions with me, included

Some things you will not say in a room. Two one-to-one sessions are built into the program for exactly that, and nothing from them goes into the room unless you put it there yourself.

Fees are not published here. We go through them on the call, once we have both worked out whether the room is right for you.

Inside a session

Two hours, and it runs to a shape

Each person commits in front of seven people who will remember. That single mechanism does more than anything else in the room.

20 minutes
Accountability

Each person says out loud whether they did what they said. Nothing else moves the needle like it.

25 minutes
Working block

One topic the room needs, pricing, hiring, cash, a system worth stealing.

60 minutes
Two hot seats

Thirty minutes each. A real problem, seven owners, and me.

15 minutes
Commitments

What you commit to now is what you are asked about at the start of the next one.

The scorecard

Everyone joins through the free Health Check

Before you take a seat we score the six areas of your business together, one-to-one, in ninety minutes. Then we put the six areas side by side every quarter. Almost every business improves the part it measures, and almost none improve the parts it never looks at.

Why this room

Run by someone who runs businesses

Four of them. When someone describes a variation dispute, a roster falling apart or a compliance obligation eating a week, I am usually not hearing about it for the first time.

Home care

Regulated, rostered, audited. What compliance really costs in hours.

Construction

Quoting, variations, subbies, weather. Cash that arrives late.

Marketing & IT

What agencies charge for, and what it is actually worth.

Hospitality

Rosters, thin margins, and the difference a bad Saturday makes.

The group can build things

Ascentix has a development and implementation team. When the constraint in the room is a website, an enquiry process, follow-up sequences or a job system, there is a way to get it built, instead of adding it to a list you will feel guilty about.

It is not a stepping stone to one-to-one

For a lot of owners the room is the better product: seven other perspectives instead of one, and some of the sharpest advice will not come from me. If one-to-one suits you better, I will say so on the call.

Fit

Who this is for, and who it is not

A good fit
Owners of businesses with roughly one to fifty people, able to get to Penrith fortnightly
Trades and contracting, allied health and care, hospitality, professional services, retail
Anyone who has been making decisions alone for years and is quietly tired of it
People who will contribute, not just collect, the room only works if everyone is in it
×Not a good fit
Anyone who cannot commit to being there fortnightly. One person drifting in and out damages it for the other seven
Anyone who wants to sell to the group. It is not a networking event and it will be obvious immediately
Anyone in genuine cash trouble, that is an accountant or a restructuring adviser, early rather than late
Anyone who needs to talk about something confidential every session. One-to-one is the better fit
Common questions

The ones people actually ask

Coaching is educational and motivational support. It is not accounting, tax, legal or financial advice, and it is no substitute for your accountant, your bookkeeper or a lawyer.

Ask whether there is a seat →
How do I know my competitor will not be in there?+

Because I check before anyone joins. No two direct competitors, ever, and I will turn away a good applicant to protect that. If your industry and catchment are already represented I will tell you on the call and put you on the list for the next group.

What if it is not for me?+

Come to the first two sessions. If it is not for you, you are out with no awkwardness. You will know inside two sessions, everyone does.

Is it confidential?+

Yes, in both directions, and it is an explicit condition of joining. Nothing from a private session with me goes into the room unless you put it there yourself.

What if I have to miss a session?+

It happens, you run a business. You will get the notes and the group channel carries on. But if you are regularly missing sessions the format is not working for you, and I will say so rather than keep taking your money.

Why is there no pricing on this page?+

Because the right answer depends on what the Health Check turns up, and for some people the answer is that the room is not it. We go through the numbers on the call, in writing, with no obligation.

Can I do both the group and one-to-one?+

Yes, and some people do. Worth talking through on the call rather than deciding upfront.

The honest bit

Ninety days from now, most of what you plan will not have happened

"

Not because you are not committed. Because Wednesday happens, a job goes sideways, and someone rings at 6am.

The only thing that reliably changes that is being asked, out loud, in front of people whose opinion you care about, whether you did the thing you said you would do. That is what the room is for.

Find out whether there is a seat

Thirty minutes, no cost, no obligation. We work out whether the room suits you, whether one-to-one would suit you better, and whether the seat you would need is open.
